- ➤ MA's Closet and Pantry in White Swan reopened in the Mt. Adams School District after closing from break-ins and floods. The center now offers meals, non-perishable food, hygiene supplies, clothing and other essentials every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 621 Signal Peak Road. Yakima Herald-Republic
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Recent records from the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission and NHTSA show that Yakima County ranked 10th among 25 counties in road fatalities at 18.3 per 100K residents (Highway 12 is noted as particularly dangerous). - ➤ Congdon Packing Company announced on Monday that it plans to lay off 102 seasonal pear packing workers at its Yakima facility — management said the layoffs will not involve relocation or outsourcing as the company remains committed to local growers, employees and the community. KIMA

- ➤ Yakima Valley College is offering free financial aid workshops for first-generation students with bilingual staff and $25 grocery cards. Sessions are at Grandview on Feb. 17, March 3, and April 21 (and at the Yakima Campus on Feb. 18, March 4, and April 22). Yakima Herald-Republic

- ➤ US 12 in Naches reopened after repairs fixed nearly 300 feet of highway damaged by December flooding; intermittent lane closures will occur during the week of Feb. 16 for guardrail and stripe installation, and a section of the Yakima Greenway Trail remains closed for new fencing. NonStopLocal
