- ➤ A new episode of Roots of the Valley featuring Yakama Chief Kamiakin aired March 1 at 11:00 a.m. John Franklin interviewed Jo Miles about the chief’s early life, trading skills, and leadership during the Yakama War. KIMA
- ➤ Washington stargazers will see a total lunar eclipse tomorrow, March 3, with a partial view at 1:50 a.m. and a full blood moon visible from 3 a.m. until 5:17 a.m. as Earth’s shadow turns the moon red + viewers should head for dark sky areas. Yakima Herald-Republic
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The WSDA reported that last year a parasitic weed, sunflower broomrape, was found in Yakima but further searches have not uncovered more cases. Agencies and farmers are using early detection to protect sunflower crops (a vital local industry) from damage. NonStopLocal

- ➤ In 1938 Yakima hosted the Washington Browns, a Black baseball team that won 30 of 32 games while playing in a local league and barnstorming across the West, featuring star pitcher William Foster. Yakima Herald-Republic
