  • Gas prices in Yakima averaged $4.51 per gallon on March 16, up 80 cents from a month ago and 88 cents above last year. Local stations ranged from $3.78 to $5.08, showing wide variations in pricing.  KIMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Legislators approved a tax package exempting school districts from an expanded sales tax starting July 1 while cutting funds for early learning programs, reducing professional development support and changing child care payments based on attendance starting Oct. 1 for centers and July 1, 2027 for family home providers.  Yakima Herald-Republic

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A long-duration atmospheric river will bring steady rain to the Cascades this week, increasing runoff on the Yakima and Naches rivers and warming valleys to the 70s while gusty winds are expected in the local highlands — with deeper valleys approaching 80 on Thursday.  Apple Valley News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The legislature allocated $875K to Kittitas Reclamation District to upgrade canals and reduce water loss in the Yakima Basin, as officials say the improvements will help farms conserve water during the fourth consecutive drought (supporting the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan).  KIMA
