COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Clint Hurdle, former manager of the Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates, will share his recovery story as keynote speaker at Sundown M Ranch's 35th Merrill Scott Symposium, held April 10-11 at the Yakima Convention Center. The banquet is open to the public and will feature expert discussions on addiction treatment, trauma-informed care, law and ethics, spirituality and co-morbidity.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • The Summer’s Hub in Kennewick will host a Women’s Expo on March 23rd from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—designed to connect, educate, and inspire women. Comedian Gabriel Iglesias performed on March 21st at the Toyota Center in Kennewick and Yakima’s Willow Cafe and Market will hold its March Indoor Vendor Market on March 23rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—showcasing local handmade goods and food options.  FOX 41

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A pedestrian was injured when hit by a car while crossing State Route 97 near Wapato on March 21 — they were taken to Multicare Yakima Memorial Hospital — and charges are pending as the crash is under investigation.  FOX 41

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yakima won first place in the 2025 Central Washington Best Tasting Water Contest held on March 19, marking its third win in a row. City water manager Mike Shane said the water comes from the Naches River, a treatment plant, and four groundwater wells — and the city will advance to a competition in Boise in May with a national contest set for June.  KIMA
  • Jim Curtice, Yakima County Coroner, appeared in court today at the Yakima County District Courthouse to face three charges including official misconduct, making false statements to a public servant, and tampering with evidence—he is on self-imposed administrative leave and is set to return on May 2 with a speedy trial scheduled for June 19 while petitions to recall him circulate.  NonStopLocal
  • Pacific Power has been working to strengthen its network for wildfire season—by rebuilding lines and clearing vegetation—and will host a community event on April 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Yakima Valley College conference center to explain safety measures such as power shutoffs and emergency de-energizations.  Yakima Herald-Republic
