COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Yak Pack, a local pet rescue organization, is planning a new community hub (at 9260 Bittner Road in Terrace Heights) that will offer pet supplies and hosting space, and it is expected to open in four months.  KIMA
  • A Yakima resident found a broken digital camera while thrifting at Oscars' Blessings and discovered an SD card with mid-2000s photos labeled 'Maddie!' and posted on local forums for help returning them. Community members from Yakima and Tacoma are now working together to locate the owner.  KIMA
  • April is 811 Safe Digging Month so residents planning major digs should call 811 at least two days before work to have underground utility lines marked. Previous 2022 incidents show that accidental line damage can lead to costly repairs.  1280 NewsTalk KIT

  • KIMA moved its newscasts from Yakima to the Tri-Cities after Community News Media LLC applied to the FCC on Mar. 24 amid its second ownership change in two months + management changes already shifted operations as broadcasts occurred from different studios on Mar. 30 and Mar. 31.  Yakima Herald-Republic

CULTURE NEWS

  • A portion of Leo Adams’ 1977 mural at Gasperetti’s Gourmet Restaurant has been moved to a new home with local artist Monte Knapp after it was removed by the Kanyers from the burned building.   • Yakima Valley is set for weekend fun with the Spring Break Carnival running April 3–12 at State Fair Park, Quetzal hosting a talking circle today at Yakima Maker Spacer, and a songwriting workshop at Heritage University’s Smith Hall, while a self-guided cherry blossom driving tour in Prosser is also planned.  Yakima Herald-Republic

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Washington University partnered with the Yakama Nation to improve access for Indigenous students—plans include forming an advisory council and holding a ceremonial celebration on April 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Student Union and Recreation Center Ballroom.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rincon Broadcasting Yakima LLC submitted an FCC application on March 24 for transferring its broadcast license from Todd Parkin to Community News Media LLC. The public may view the filing online.  FOX 41

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Bob Ferguson announced that Washington joined the WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network to provide state health experts with early alerts and support for outbreak response — the membership helps the state stay connected to global disease monitoring amid federal changes.  NonStopLocal
  • The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of 5,543 CCCEI power strips due to overheating and spark risks that could cause fire in Washington. Consumers who bought the devices between April 2024 and January 2026 should return them to Amazon for a full refund.  1280 NewsTalk KIT

SPORTS NEWS

  • State Fair Park will host sprint boat races on June 13-14 and Aug. 15-16, with boats racing at speeds over 80 mph and added family amenities for fun. Visitors from across the country are expected to join the racing weekends for more thrills.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
