- ➤ Yakima's Spring Break Carnival opens tomorrow at 4 p.m. at State Fair Park and will run through April 13 with free entry, free parking, rides, carnival games, and food vendors; wristbands ($40) provide unlimited rides and two games. - ➤ The Central Washington Home Builders Association is planning the 10th celebration of Dozer Day Yakima for Saturday, April 5 at 10 a.m. at State Fair Park—an event that will let children operate construction equipment and explore careers in the trades while honoring nearly 17,000 attendees and 6,500 volunteer hours over the past decade. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Local lawmakers oppose closing Yakima Valley School as state budget proposals move forward—while the Senate plan removed the closure, the House bill still includes it. They will fight House Bill 1472 during budget reconciliation because closing the school by the end of June 2027 would hurt many families. KIMA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yakima City Council approved a resolution yesterday that set up a $1 million fund & Yakima County will match the city’s $500,000 contribution over three years to offer minimum revenue guarantees to airlines for new routes at Yakima Airport. The fund comes from a U.S. Department of Transportation grant & officials are working to attract carriers like Delta and secure additional funding for future route expansions. KIMA
- ➤ The City of Yakima clarified that the Harman Senior Center will not close—responding to inquiries over its potential closure amid budget concerns. City officials are seeking community input on public safety, parks, streets and essential services—residents can attend town halls on April 7 at the Harman Senior Center, April 10 at the Convention Center and April 16 at Davis High School.
