  • Bob Romero, chief executive officer of Yakima Family YMCA for 20 years, announced he will retire effective September 15. He built the Rotary Aquatic Center & guided the YMCA through COVID-19 challenges.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
  • Crews are painting the new Selah Downtown Association home in the historic district near Naches Ave after the organization acquired the building on March 31; leaders plan to move in later this month & host events for local businesses and community members.  KIMA
  • An ice cream social in Naches will be held Saturday, Apr. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Applewood Park to raise funds for the library; the event will feature live music, yard games, a seed starting activity (by The Floral Station) and $5 ice cream from King’s Scoop.  Yakima Herald-Republic

  • The Yakima Symphony Orchestra will perform its 2027-28 season at A.C. Davis High School while Capitol Theatre undergoes a three-year renovation starting summer 2026 (a preview is set for Aug. 30, 2026). EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Washington University announced a historic partnership with Yakama Nation to expand educational opportunities for indigenous students in Yakima. The university will mark the event with a ceremony on Monday, Apr. 27 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.  KIMA
  • Yakima School District will ask voters for a $200 million bond measure on April 28 to rebuild Hoover and Garfield elementaries and upgrade tracks and playgrounds for ADA compliance. The district has not sought a bond measure in nearly 20 years.  KIMA

  • A Selah woman diagnosed with colon cancer at 45 after a routine colonoscopy urges Yakima residents to start early screening as doctors report rising cases among younger individuals.
