- ➤ KIMA Action News staff worked with the Salvation Army to host a community day of service where local children learned about broadcasting plus met meteorologist Mike McCabe, production staff, and reporter John Franklin. Director Emma Delong showed the kids how work behind the camera is done and the event helped them see what goes into making a show. KIMA
- ➤ State Fair Park and American Sprint Boat Racing will host a sprint boat racing event on Saturday and Sunday, August 16th and 17th — a project worked on for two years. It is expected to attract 35 to 40 teams, drawing fans from nearby areas — an event set to bring fast-paced action to our community. 1280 NewsTalk KIT

- ➤ North Town Coffeehouse at 32 N. Front St. in Yakima will reopen Friday, April 11 with a ribbon-cutting at 8 a.m.—the coffee shop has been closed since a basement fire early June 4 caused smoke damage and required repairs. Owner Jesse Roberts plans weekend specials and an open mic on Sunday while the neighboring Main Stop on the Ave has not yet set a reopening date. Yakima Herald-Republic

- ➤ Benton County Mosquito Control is stepping up efforts to keep mosquito populations low in Benton County and parts of Yakima as the abatement season begins; Kevin Shoemaker said the program uses planes & drones to apply EPA-approved granular products that target mosquito larvae in water and avoid residential areas. - ➤ The Washington Department of Ecology declared that central Washington (including Yakima) was under a drought emergency for the third year due to ongoing water shortages. Snowpack is near normal but will not fully recharge soils, leaving reservoirs at 59% of normal (the lowest level since 1971). FOX 41

- ➤ Yakima city officials are holding two town hall meetings to get feedback on a $9 million budget shortfall; City Manager Vicki Baker will lead today's session at the Yakima Convention Center—starting at 6:30 p.m.—and a second meeting is scheduled for April 16 at Davis High School. - ➤ The Yakama Nation is celebrating the U.S. Forest Service's decision to suspend commercial huckleberry permits (for 2025) in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, a move aimed at protecting the sacred berries used in traditional ceremonies. Tribal Chairman Gerald Lewis said the suspension will allow time to address issues such as harmful gathering methods, drought, and invasive species. NonStopLocal
- ➤ The Yakima County Sheriff's Office launched a free smartphone app that gives residents quick access to safety information. Developed by OCV, LLC, it allows users to submit tips, check jail details and view job openings (it can be downloaded on the App Store and Google Play). NonStopLocal
