  • La Casa Hogar has named a new executive director, Asuncion (Chon) Marquez, who brings 12 years nonprofit experience from Rod's House and will start on May 26 to boost services for the Spanish-speaking community in Yakima.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • Aviation Day will take place Saturday, June 6 at Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., offering aircraft displays, aviation booths, food vendors, and a Fly In Pancake Breakfast at Yakima Air Park while partnering with the McAllister Museum of Aviation to raise scholarships and honor D-Day.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
  • Yakima's Downtown Farmers Market returns on Mother's Day with fresh produce, artisanal crafts, and live music each Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rotary Marketplace Pavilion — the venue now features permanent, fully plumbed restrooms and will host free Kids Day on May 31.  1280 NewsTalk KIT

  • Alex Martinez operates Crave Ink Yakima, a licensed tattoo studio that travels in a converted bus to serve local events and clients. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yakima Valley College hosted its first Giving Day fundraiser to support emergency student funding and creative programs, beginning early Wednesday and ending at midnight. The event united the community & boosted educational opportunities for local students.  KIMA
  • Davis High School presents a musical adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame at 6:30 p.m. today at its auditorium at 212 S. Sixth Ave — 52 students perform in several shows through May 2 with tickets at $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in Washington now face fines of $250 and up for tossing trash or cigarette butts from their cars on highways. The state law also sets fines up to $1,025 for (lit debris) and extra fees for fire-fighting and damage, so keep trash securely stored.  1280 NewsTalk KIT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Premera Blue Cross and MultiCare are negotiating a new contract that may turn Yakima Memorial Hospital and local facilities out of network for nonemergency care after May 31 if they do not reach an agreement.
