  • Local leaders in Yakima County held a roundtable on Friday to discuss ways to improve critical home repairs after Yakima Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity received a national $10,000 home ownership resilience grant last fall; they plan to use the insights to guide statewide housing advocacy.  Yakima Herald-Republic

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farmers in the Yakima Valley have begun harvesting asparagus but are experiencing lower yields (2-3 boxes per acre) due to cool spring weather. Despite slow production, market prices remain high because Mexico's crop quality is weak, and local stores and farmers markets are set to feature the produce.  Yakima Herald-Republic

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Toppenish School District cut nine positions on April 24 to address enrollment declines that saw more than 100 fewer students each year. The changes, expected to save over $1 million, drew community questions during the board meeting on April 27.  NonStopLocal
