COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On May 1, the Yakima Valley May Day Coalition will hold a rally and march at Miller Park in Yakima starting at 4 p.m.—with the rally at 5:30 p.m. and the march at 5:45 p.m.—to honor workers and their families under the theme Marching for Justice, Dignity and Equality.  Yakima Herald-Republic

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Majestic Theatre in Union Gap will show special screenings of Rainier: A Beer Odyssey from May 2—4. On Friday, guests will meet the film team—writers and directors—while James Gang Tavern serves Rainier beer on draft all weekend.  Yakima Herald-Republic

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy data shows that Yakima gasoline prices increased 3.7 cents per gallon to $3.92 on April 28 — prices are now 8.7 cents higher than a month ago and 48.9 cents lower than a year ago.  KIMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Communities in Schools of Central Washington is a nonprofit that helps keep students in school by linking them with basic needs, mental health support, and academic help across eight districts. The group provided 26,000 essential items last year and will host a film premiere on May 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Union Gap so locals can learn more about its work.  NonStopLocal
  • Communities in Schools of Central Washington is celebrating three years of linking schools with local resources to help students overcome barriers. The nonprofit supported 198 students last year, distributed 26,000 essential items, and will host a film premiere May 29 in Union Gap from 6 to 8 p.m. — an event aimed at raising awareness about its work.  FOX 41

HEALTH NEWS

  • On April 28, researchers reported that the CORE program helped breast cancer patients access tailored exercise or rehab services with over 60% following its guidance. Participants noted positive benefits that may lower treatment risks — the study suggests the program could model integrated care for other cancer centers.  FOX 41
  • A clinical trial released Monday showed that exposure therapy enabled 67% of 21 adults with peanut allergies to safely tolerate at least five peanuts by ingesting daily doses of peanut flour—this treatment may provide a new option for reducing anxiety over accidental exposures. Experts noted that further research will confirm which adult patients are most likely to benefit, so individuals should consult their doctors about available trials.  FOX 41
