- ➤ Residents living between Nob Hill Boulevard and Tieton Drive from 16th Avenue to Landon Avenue can drop off large bulky items at a temporary site on Arlington Avenue next to Yakima Valley College from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on May 3rd—volunteers will also drive trucks to help with trash and yard waste while commercial, construction and hazardous waste will not be accepted. 1280 NewsTalk KIT

- ➤ A Yakima man was sentenced to two years in federal prison+ three years probation after a July 2022 arrest for violating a domestic violence no contact order by hiding more than a dozen guns in a dog house. NonStopLocal
- ➤ Selah Police said that a missing four year old’s remains were confirmed on Cowiche Mill Road east of Selah after an autopsy on April 22, and his father, first held on April 17 for misdemeanor charges, now faces federal charges for theft of government money — wire fraud. FOX 41
- ➤ A Yakima man named Benjamin Cliett was sentenced to two years in prison after police found 18 firearms in his home when he violated a domestic violence no contact order—his sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release. NonStopLocal
- ➤ Selah Police found the remains of 4-year-old AJ Funderburgh on Cowiche Mill Road April 16 during a welfare check—his father was arrested on misdemeanor charges that were later dismissed before he faced federal charges while tests continue to determine how the child died. Apple Valley News Now

- ➤ The 37th annual Cinco de Mayo festival will be held in downtown Sunnyside from May 2 to May 4 with over 100 vendors, dancing horses, live music, and food stands— a Saturday car show starts at 8 a.m. and a Sunday parade features a charro competition. Yakima Herald-Republic

- ➤ Governor Bob Ferguson ordered state agencies to lower flags to half-staff from Friday to Sunday to honor fallen firefighters at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service set for May 3-4. - ➤ The Washington state legislature passed House Bill 1163 that requires permits to buy a firearm and sets rules for safety training and reporting concealed pistol licenses. The bill now awaits Governor Ferguson's signature—some lawmakers worry it may harm Second Amendment rights. KIMA
- ➤ Officials from WSDOT and the State Patrol warned drivers on Interstate 90 in Yakima Valley to slow down and avoid phone use in active construction zones—steps aimed at protecting both workers and travelers as a 36% rise in serious crashes was reported between 2023 and 2024.
