ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A sedan carrying four 20-year-old men flipped over at 3 a.m. Sunday on River Road near Fruitvale Boulevard when it failed to negotiate a curve and crashed through a construction zone—killing one man and injuring three others—while police said high speed may have been a factor and criminal charges are pending. - ➤ Washington State Patrol launched a missing Indigenous persons alert system in 2022 that helped locate 29 of 32 people, yet the case of Kit Mora—who disappeared from Omak after Christmas break 2021 and remains missing—shows that law enforcement still faces challenges in responding quickly to these cases. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yakima City Council meets today at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall to review community feedback from about 2,000 survey responses on a forecasted $9 million budget gap plus discuss potential tax increases and spending cuts. The council will also hold a public hearing on urban zoning law updates and vote on new committee appointments. Yakima Herald-Republic
- ➤ A new debris slide appeared on the west flank of Rattlesnake Ridge outside Union Gap on April 27 and blocked a closed section of Thorp Road, though officials said it poses no risk to homes or I-82. - ➤ Researchers reported that a new bone marrow test detected genetic mutations that signaled a leukemia relapse up to three months before standard exams — a study of 637 patients in remission showed a 50% better survival rate.
