ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out at Central Washington Wine Production Group on SR243 South near Mattawa today, sending thick columns of smoke into the air as crews worked to contain the blaze and confirmed no injuries despite 4.5 million gallons of wine stored at the facility.  NonStopLocal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state recognized eight local school districts for improving student achievement (2024-25 school year). Out of 150 districts, Grandview, Granger, Mount Adams, Naches, Wapato, West Valley, and Yakima earned recognition for closing achievement gaps and boosting student growth.  Yakima Herald-Republic

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • High winds and wildfire danger affect our area today and are set to continue through Friday as a dry cold front moves in. Friday brings a risk of blowing dust while Tuesday will see a high UV index and medium-high pollen counts through Saturday.  Apple Valley News Now

  • Representatives Dan Newhouse and Teresa Leger Fernández introduced a resolution on May 5 to designate that day as National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, backed by indigenous groups and fellow lawmakers to spotlight unsolved cases and push for stronger protections.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
  • The Plymouth Weigh Station at the Oregon border will resume screening trucks electronically late May or early June, allowing drivers to pass without a stop.   • Brody Nolan started Intrnl Fight to raise youth mental health awareness following his best friend’s suicide.
