ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Yakima man, 68-year-old James Sandall, was killed in a traffic collision near the Vernita Bridge Friday morning when his 2018 Chevrolet Corvette struck a 1989 GMC Sierra — his passenger and the Sierra driver were injured and taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center while investigators ruled out drugs or alcohol.  Yakima Herald-Republic

CRIME NEWS

  • A 37-year-old man died after being shot at 1:06 a.m. Saturday at an apartment on North Fourth Street in Yakima—police attempted lifesaving efforts and detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are investigating the homicide.  Yakima Herald-Republic

ECONOMY NEWS

  • National Travel and Tourism Week highlighted that visitors spent $411 million in 2024, supporting 5,175 jobs and nearly $53 million in taxes for our community—tourism helps pay for services like public safety, roads, parks, and education. However, rising travel costs and federal policy changes may drop international visits while domestic travel could grow in the coming months.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, the Yakama Nation, WDFW, Kittitas County and Kittitas Reclamation District celebrated acquiring the 3600 acre Springwood Ranch near Thorp from the Trust for Public Land for a $24 million reimbursement. The land will support a future water reservoir under the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan — a project that will see 1100 acres co-managed by the Yakama Nation and a $20.8 million feasibility study set to finish around 2027.  Yakima Herald-Republic

HEALTH NEWS

  • Before the Mother's Day market at the corner of Summitview & Tenth Avenue, Yakima Health District held a seminar to show potential street food vendors how to navigate the permitting process and set up safe food stations. Local food inspectors and sample vendors led mock inspections and hands-on walkthroughs to help the 30 participants learn the proper practices.  KIMA

  • White House Cafe B&B is a bed and breakfast at 3602 Kern Rd in Yakima that hides a small English garden cafe on its patio—giving visitors a quiet taste of the countryside.
