- ➤ People For People broke ground on its new 6000 square foot commercial kitchen + centralized facility in Union Gap at 1236 Ahtanum Ridge Business Park to help Meals On Wheels deliver over 178,000 meals annually to local seniors. The building will have administrative offices, storage space and a community dining area while consolidating meal preparation from Selah Civic Center and Henry Beauchamp Center, with occupancy expected in December and a ribbon-cutting planned for January. - ➤ The Yakima County Fire Marshal announced a county-wide burn ban will take effect in unincorporated Yakima County on June 1 until Sept. 1 due to anticipated dry conditions—residential outdoor burning like bonfires and recreational fires is banned and violators may face a $1,000 fine, arrest, or jail time. - ➤ The Yakima Police Department held a ceremony at Sarg Hubbard park today to honor officers who died and recognize those still serving during national law enforcement week—police remembered a Washington State Patrol trooper among 165 nationwide who made the ultimate sacrifice. Leaders stressed that support for both officers and their families helps address the significant stress of the job—community and law enforcement officials pledged continued commitment to providing this support.
