- ➤ La Casa Hogar acquired a two‐story building next to its Yakima headquarters for $300,000 from the Sisters of Providence—this new space will host citizenship legal services, language exchange classes, and other programs for immigrant families. - ➤ Energy Northwest and the BPA approved a $700 million upgrade for Columbia Generating Station near Richland that will boost its output by 162 megawatts by 2031 to power 125,000 homes. - ➤ Yakima Valley College is waiving application fees for residents of Yakima, Kittitas and Klickitat counties for fall 2025 applicants while reducing the fee for others from $30 to $10. - ➤ Safe Yakima Valley reported five overdoses in the last 24 hours from 10 a.m. on Thursday, raising concerns that a high-potency or contaminated drug supply—possibly fentanyl—may be circulating. - ➤ Researchers found that a drug called canrenone — already used to treat heart conditions — nearly tripled the pumping strength of donor hearts stored in the cold, which may let more hearts be used for transplants in the future.
