COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Graduating seniors in Wapato paraded through elementary, middle, and high schools on Wednesday to show younger students the path to graduation, continuing a 10-year tradition that ended with a community barbecue (where officials noted the event helped motivate kids to work hard in school).  KIMA

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities in Wenatchee are offering a $20,000 reward for tips on Travis Decker, a 32-year-old suspect wanted for murder after a multi-agency search led to the discovery of his three daughters' bodies in Leavenworth on June 2 + he remains at large.  FOX 41

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yakima Federal Savings and Loan announced academic assistance totaling $167,500 for local students and schools, with sixty graduating high school seniors receiving $2,500 scholarships. Seven post-secondary institutions received $17,500 in grants — a move that supports continuing education opportunities in our region.  KIMA
  • Ma-Lena McClellan, an 18-year-old senior at Yakama Nation Tribal School, excelled in shot put with a record of 31 feet 4 inches and maintained a 3.7 GPA while playing on several sports teams. She organized a breast cancer awareness event in honor of lost family members and a friend and plans to study English and sports medicine as she continues her athletic and academic journey.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington State Patrol and state agencies are launching the 'Secure Your Load, Save a Life' campaign to check for unsecured loads during emphasis patrols through the first three weeks of June—last year, over 500 drivers received citations for unsafe loads. The campaign will also offer free cargo nets and tie-down discounts to help drivers secure their loads and keep roads safe.  1280 NewsTalk KIT

HEALTH NEWS

  • A recent study showed that many kids in crisis waited at least 12 hours in the ER before getting a psychiatric bed. The research found that those with public insurance and younger children waited longer and experts say hospitals must improve their transfer process.  FOX 41
