- ➤ Yakima Parks and Recreation has released the Summer 2025 Program Guide that features the 19th annual Paws in the Pool event at Franklin Pool, free concerts, and outdoor movies today—residents can also learn about sports lessons, summer camps, tournaments, and other family activities at City Hall and the Parks office on 2301 Fruitvale Boulevard. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On June 8, a fire burned about 3,800 acres near Moxee and nearly 100 firefighters — with 3 bulldozers, 3 helicopters and 2 fixed-wing planes — worked to stop its spread while no buildings were in danger and the cause remains under investigation. NonStopLocal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Over the weekend, the Yakama Nation marked the 170th anniversary of the Treaty of 1855 with a kids rodeo in White Swan that drew nearly 100 children from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and California (competing in mutton busting, calf riding, junior barrel racing, and colt racing). The events reminded tribal members and visitors of the treaty’s important role in their history. NonStopLocal
- ➤ The McAllister Museum of Aviation and Yakima Air Terminal will host Aviation Day this Saturday where visitors can view static displays including military and other aircraft — a tribute to the local air fair tradition that began in 1983 and ended in 1997. - ➤ Washington State is starting Smoke Ready Week today—an effort by the Department of Health, National Weather Service, and regional agencies to share social media tips and help residents lower risks from wildfire smoke—with forecasts showing high wildfire risk and ongoing drought until September. - ➤ The City of Yakima is asking residents to conserve water as a statewide drought and proration reduce supplies for some customers, with junior water rights holders set to receive only 43% of their allocation. City officials said water drawn from the Naches River supplies over 72,000 people — and urged saving water by watering lawns early or late, checking for leaks, and avoiding waste.
