- ➤ The Yakima Valley community has rallied around the Grandview family after Christian Trevino, 24, a Washington State University graduate and Grandview School District employee, died on June 6 near Sunnyside when a suspected drunk driver struck him — nearly $29,000 has been raised to help with his funeral expenses. - ➤ A Tieton man is scheduled to appear in Yakima County Superior Court Friday for charges tied to a Thursday drive-by shooting that wounded a man — bail is set at $100,000. Yakima Herald-Republic
- ➤ The Washington State Patrol activated a silver alert for Toppenish resident Joan Papantoniou after she went missing when she was given a ride from a nursing home to Terrace Heights on June 1—officials ask anyone with information to call 9-1-1. NonStopLocal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Last weekend, the Yakama Nation celebrated its 170th Treaty Days with a parade, rodeo, powwow and tournaments to honor the treaty signed on June 9th at Camp Stevens. Tribal leaders stressed youth involvement as events took place from Legends Casino to the Yakama Nation Cultural Center + festivities continued through Sunday. Yakima Herald-Republic
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Average gasoline prices in Yakima fell 3.7 cents per gallon since June 2nd and averaged $4.00 as of June 9th—prices are still 13.5 cents above last month's rate and 1.5 cents higher than last year's level. KIMA

- ➤ Yakima City Council will review a $9 million budget shortfall by discussing options like levy increases or cuts to services during a study session today at City Hall starting at 5 p.m.—staff recommendations include reducing public safety spending by $5.5 million and trimming funds for parks and other services.
