- ➤ A 24-year-old disabled man nearly drowned in the Roza Canal on Monday in Yakima County and was rescued by emergency personnel—he received immediate medical care and is expected to make a full recovery. FOX 41

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Yakima police responded to a shooting on Pleasant Avenue on June 14 where a 66-year-old man died from gunshot wounds and a 38-year-old suspect, who lives on the same property as the victim, was arrested near the scene. Apple Valley News Now
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ In May, Del Monte closed its large Yakima pear cannery and two warehouses, laying off 51 permanent workers and 448 seasonal employees while shifting canning to California. Local growers now face thousands of tons of pears with no market—this decision is expected to lower prices and hurt future harvests. Yakima Herald-Republic
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Bugaboo recalled over 18,000 Giraffe high chairs on Monday, June 16 due to a fall risk when screws are not tightened properly, which may cause the legs to detach and injure children. Parents who bought the chairs before May 1 should stop using them and contact Bugaboo for a free repair kit — chairs bought after May 1 already include the kit. FOX 41
- ➤ Researchers developed a once-a-week capsule that expands into a six-armed star shape so it stays in the stomach and releases risperidone steadily for up to a week to keep schizophrenia symptoms under control. Larger phase 3 studies will follow before the FDA reviews the new treatment. FOX 41
- ➤ A study from Massachusetts General Hospital found that people with ADHD prescribed stimulants via telehealth did not have a higher risk of substance use disorder than those seen in person — although patients who only met their doctor remotely showed a sixfold increase in risk, likely due to underlying factors.
