COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Therapeutic Riding of Tri-Cities helps children, adults, veterans, and first responders improve their balance, strength, and speech with equine-assisted programs—its Horses Helping Heroes and Adaptive Riding Program offer unique therapies. TROT will host its 11th Annual Mane Event at the Benton County Fairgrounds on June 28 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.—featuring auctions, barbecue, music, dancing, and games to support horse care and rider scholarships.  FOX 41

CRIME NEWS

  • Mary Ann Bliesner, 83, owner of the shuttered Sunnyside plant, apologized before a federal judge for selling tainted juice and received three years probation — she and her company must repay $742,139 for the revenue generated from the sale.  Yakima Herald-Republic

  • The Yakima Area Arboretum is hosting a summer day camp for kids that runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on its 46 acres to offer both nature lessons and fun activities, with Fridays featuring water days with slip and slide + splash trivia to add extra excitement.  NonStopLocal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers reported on June 18 that a study of nearly 7,600 stroke survivors showed talk therapy reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety, with about 49% fully recovering and 71% experiencing significant improvement — patients who began therapy early fared better. Health providers are urged to screen stroke survivors for mood disorders and refer them for timely care.  FOX 41
  • Yakima County saw 55 overdose deaths in 2025 compared to 68 last year, with 21 linked to fentanyl—after a 2024 spike that saw nearly 100 fentanyl-related deaths. County Coroner Marshall Slight said access to the drug makes it easy to get even though its use is dangerous.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • A new study found that women working only night shifts had a 50% higher risk of moderate to severe asthma compared to those on day shifts, and postmenopausal women not on hormone replacement therapy had an 89% increased risk—researchers said more studies are needed to understand the link.  FOX 41
