- ➤ Local volunteers rebuilt an off-road go-kart for Cody, a 20-year-old with autism whose old kart had stopped running, after his family asked for help. The restored kart—featuring full suspension, LED strobe lights, and an electric start engine—will let him ride with joy this summer while the community shows support. KIMA
- ➤ Thunder at the Mountain brings monster truck mayhem today at Tri-City Raceway with a pre-show party starting at 5:30 p.m.—the event began yesterday and includes wheelie competitions and ride-alongs. Beer Farm Music Fest in Pasco offers free entry with performances by different Zacs on June 20, 21, and 22, and Yakima hosts its Pride Parade at State Fair Park from noon to 6 p.m. with an after party from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. FOX 41
- ➤ East Yakima residents and community leaders celebrated the opening of Martin Luther King Jr. Park’s new $11 million aquatic center on Thursday, June 19—with features including multiple pools, a large water slide, a pool basketball hoop, and a community room named after activist Ester Huey. - ➤ At Tri-City Raceway, Thunder at the Mountain held a monster truck event Friday and is running today with contests, ride-alongs and a pre-show party at 5:30 p.m. In Pasco, Paper Street Brewing is hosting a free three-day country music fest with shows on June 20, today and June 22 — in Yakima, the Pride Parade and Festival takes place at State Fair Park from noon to 6 p.m. NonStopLocal
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire destroyed a mobile home on Butterfield Road on Friday—firefighters arrived around 3:15 p.m. and rescued three adults, three children, and a couple dogs while crews mopped up hot spots and the American Red Cross provided assistance as the Yakima County Fire Marshal began investigating. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Jan 28, a 43-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder after he allegedly killed 62-year-old Ronnie Comenout by hitting him in the head with a shovel at his home in the 6000 block of Larue Road on the Yakama Nation’s Lower Valley reservation + he appeared in federal court on June 18 while awaiting trial. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yakima Police Captain Matt Sutton left the Army to join the department in 2013 and has grown from a patrol officer into roles such as SWAT sniper and detective while now helping guide policies and public trust. Police Chief Shawn Boyle praised Sutton’s leadership (noting his strong military background and commitment to transparency) as a model for a new generation in law enforcement. Yakima Herald-Republic
