CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A felony theft complaint has been filed against suspended Sunnyside City Manager Mike Gonzalez and realtors Todd Sternfeld of NAI Commercial Real Estate, Vicki Monteagudo and Geoff Bowlsby of Century 21 for allegedly using reports and maps worth more than $50,000 from Munson Vedder Developing to sell the Monson property to F & M Investments without permission—Yakima Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case. - ➤ Jury selection is underway for the murder trial of Vincent Mora Worthington, who is accused of second-degree murder—along with charges for a drive-by shooting, eluding police, and unlawful firearm possession—in connection with Gerald Moore’s death in February 2022, with jurors expected to be chosen by week’s end and the eight-day trial set to follow. - ➤ Jury selection began Monday and continued through Wednesday in the Yakima County trial of Vincent Luis Mora-Worthington, charged with second-degree murder and other crimes in the Feb 16 homicide of Gerald Steven Moore on South Eighth Street— the trial is expected to last eight days. - ➤ A Yakima man, Lorenzo Medina-Mejia, faces arraignment on first and second-degree murder charges for fatally shooting Rogelio Rodriguez in his backyard on the 1200 block of Pleasant Avenue after officers received a 9 a.m. call on June 14+ they recovered a handgun that matched the shell casings found at the scene. - ➤ Prosecutors dropped animal cruelty charges against Norma Jean Lister and Rachel Stein on June 13—citing the absence of co-defendant David Ross Schuster—and may refile charges if his status changes. Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city of Yakima began work last Monday to connect homes to water and wastewater systems, replacing private wells and septic systems on North Third Street, North Fourth Street, East Q Street, East O Street, Oak Street, South 10th Avenue and Woodland Avenue. The project is federally funded — with $2.2 million from the Bureau of Reclamation — to bring essential public services to underserved neighborhoods. Yakima Herald-Republic
- ➤ The city of Yakima began its annual chip sealing program Wednesday to save money and maintain roads; crews are working on Summitview Avenue and Tieton Drive from 48th to 56th Avenue, and on Tieton Drive with Nob Hill Boulevard from 48th to 60th Avenue Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. until the project ends in September — residents are asked to follow no parking signs and avoid work zones.
