- ➤ Multiple roads in Zillah will be closed today through Sunday for a 3-on-3 basketball tournament that starts tomorrow. The Zillah Police Department said 1st Ave at City Hall and 7th and 6th Streets at 2nd Ave, 1st Ave, and Railroad Ave will close at 5 p.m. — parking and detours will remain available until the roads reopen Sunday afternoon. - ➤ On July 3, the Yakima Pickleball Club held its first Eight-Minute Scramble at Franklin Park, where over 50 players competed to help raise funds for $20,000 in court repairs. Spokesperson Ken Gola said the event, meant to fix cracking and peeling courts that have not been resurfaced in six years, raised over $500 and will lead to additional fundraiser events— strengthening a safer play area for all. - ➤ After five days of testimony, a Yakima County jury convicted Vincent Luis Mora-Worthington, 28, of second-degree murder—drive-by shooting, eluding police and unlawful possession of a firearm for the Feb. 16th homicide of 71-year-old Gerald Moore outside his home on South Eighth Street, with evidence including cell phone data and matching shell casings linking his vehicle to the crime. - ➤ On July 1, officers from Zillah and Granger responded to a call when a man in a neighbor’s house refused to exit; after an hour-long negotiation and forced entry, they detained him but he later died in hospital — an autopsy is pending. KIMA

- ➤ Today, the Bureau of Reclamation reported that the Yakima basin water supply for the May 20—September period will allow senior water rights to receive 100% of their full entitlement while junior water rights will get 45% due to below-average rainfall affecting reservoir levels; storage was 60% full as of July 1—Reclamation will update the forecast monthly with the latest data. - ➤ Low rainfall in June and reduced snowpack in the Cascades have forced junior water rights holders in the Yakima River Basin to receive only 45% of their water allotment as announced during a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation meeting on Thursday — five key reservoirs are at 60% capacity as irrigators face a third year of drought.
