  • Yakima Police will host Coffee with a Cop this Sunday at the Downtown Yakima Farmer's Market where residents can enjoy coffee with Chief Shawn Boyle + children can view police vehicles during market hours from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
  • The Salvation Army in Yakima will launch its first capital campaign to raise $750,000 for renovating its future community center—fixing the HVAC, elevator and hope market area. They will host a barbeque and offer tours at 509 North Fourth Street from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 15.  KIMA
  • Monterosso's Italian Restaurant will host a Family Train Day on July 12th featuring members of the Toppenish Train Museum, where local families can learn about train history and craftsmanship.  Apple Valley News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Yakima police are asking for help finding 21-year-old Cameron Foster, a visitor from the Tri-Cities who arrived around June 30 and has been missing for about a week. His family said they have not heard from him in several days — he is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 270 pounds — and anyone with information should contact the authorities.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Yakima police arrested a 39-year-old driver on suspicion of driving impaired after his 2014 Hyundai Sonata struck a 32-year-old pedestrian with ties to Kennewick at an unmarked crosswalk on July 3 at 2:54 a.m.—the injured man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening head injuries.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A committee of tribal elders, boarding school survivors and legal experts released a preliminary report on July 1 that details the history of state-run Indian boarding schools, including two in Yakima County — the committee will hold at least six listening sessions to gather further input and develop recommendations to address the ongoing harm. The report documents past practices and aims to guide future state actions.  Yakima Herald-Republic
