  • The 51st annual Vintiques car show in Yakima is underway today from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with over 600 classic cars, local vendors and races—organizer Ric Knight said the event has grown over 45 years and now welcomes new generations while charging $15 for adults and $5 for seniors and kids.  Apple Valley News Now

  • A study from Ooma shows that Washington small business owners earn 127% more than the national average—the highest in the country. They average $144,941 compared to much lower wages in states like Florida—driven by strong sectors such as technology and healthcare.  1280 NewsTalk KIT

CRIME NEWS

  • Yakima Police warn residents about a door-to-door paving scam by unlicensed contractors—some of whom have defrauded homeowners of up to $10,000—urging residents to hire local companies with proper licensing.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
  • Peter Verbrugge, a former fruit executive, was sentenced to nine months in prison for vehicular assault+ he struck a bicyclist in 2024 causing a traumatic brain injury, two collapsed lungs, and a blown pupil, and he will serve one year of community custody after his release.  KIMA
  • DNA testing has identified Wapato woman Martha Bassett, whose remains were found murdered in Chicago in 1968, after law enforcement reopened her cold case in early 2025—allowing her family to plan her return to her Yakama homelands.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • Police charged Kent Anton Hewitt nearly three weeks after a drive-by shooting on south 12th Street on July 13 when evidence from gun casings, eyewitness accounts, and security camera footage linked him to the incident — although Jose Luna was identified as the shooter, he was not charged.  KIMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yakima Air Terminal began a canopy replacement project on August 1 at 6:30 p.m. to upgrade the terminal with a new roof, HVAC system and three new canopies over sidewalks; construction has temporarily changed traffic lanes—officials expect them to return next week.  FOX 41
