COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The 51st annual Vintiques Car Show wrapped up on August 3, drawing over 600 classic cars, 2,000 participants & 5,000 guests to the state fairgrounds where cars aged 50 years or more competed for prizes. Vice President Ric Knight said the event brought the community together, and the next show is set for the first weekend in August next year. FOX 41
- ➤ On July 26, riders from the Medicine Wheel Ride stopped at the Yakama Reservation RV Park to honor missing and murdered Indigenous people by sharing a meal and messages with local families and tribal representatives. The group, which began in Seattle and is headed to Sturgis, united community members in support of those in need—promising continued help through grants and public awareness. Yakima Herald-Republic

- ➤ John Franklin spoke with Janet Mayer—president of the Toppenish Mural Society who explained how Toppenish’s murals show the city’s history of lost industries and past fires. The episode, set to air this week, reveals the art that brings Toppenish's past to life. KIMA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On August 2nd, Yakima City Council approved $3 million in general fund budget cuts—affecting youth and senior programs, street maintenance, some watering at Tahoma cemetery, flowers downtown and economic development. The measure is expected to bring changes to local services soon. Yakima Herald-Republic
- ➤ A largely grant-funded project will connect over 120 Yakima households in the northeast and south-central areas to City water and sewer services — with phase one extending pipelines and phase two linking homes. The project received a $4.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s WaterSMART Drought Resiliency program — with phase one having begun on June 23rd and scheduled to finish in February and phase two planned from March to October 2026.
