BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cargill has opened a new retail feed facility at 700 Ruehl Way in Granger next to its bulk dairy feed mill. The facility produces and packages 120,000 tons of animal feed yearly and creates 21 local jobs—meeting the growing demand from nearby ag retailers.  Yakima Herald-Republic

CRIME NEWS

  • The Yakima County Sheriff's Office confirmed Tuesday that they are investigating a shooting on the 1600 block of Apricot Road in Grandview during a party on August 16 where five victims were involved and at least three were hospitalized—officials are asking anyone with information to call authorities.  Apple Valley News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yakima residents have a busy weekend ahead with events planned across town. On Thursday, the old Masonic Temple at Hotel Maison will host an art reception from 4–6 p.m.—an 80s tribute by Night Wave will follow from 7–9 p.m.—and on Sunday, Franklin Pool will hold the annual Paws in the Pool from 2–4 p.m., where dogs swim for free.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • A new photo gallery shows 50 Google photos of Yakima’s past and present, featuring changes like the demolished Track 29 in downtown and modern updates at the central library—illustrating the city’s evolving heritage.  1280 NewsTalk KIT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Primary election results in Eastern and Central Washington show that Shelley Harper won 50% of the vote and Patricia Barrera earned 33%, with Martha Gonzalez advancing in Mabton and interim County Coroner Marshall Slight winning 72% in Yakima County. All tax levies passed in Walla Walla, Kittitas and Benton counties as local measures move forward with the general election set for November 4.  NonStopLocal
  • Today, local election officials certified the primary results and will share more details on November races during the evening news—voters will see updates as contests move forward.  KIMA
  • Selah officials passed an emergency ordinance on Tuesday that raises penalties for unlicensed food vendors by increasing fines to $1,000 and jail time to 90 days—police can also confiscate equipment and vehicles used by the vendors. City Attorney D.R. 'Rob' Case said the law, effective immediately, aims to protect public health by targeting vendors without proper permits.  Yakima Herald-Republic
