BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bluewood Ski Resort announced that a dispute with its lift broker has delayed the installation of the new Skyline Express lift until Spring 2026 — the resort said it has taken legal action to speed up part deliveries and will honor a $100 credit for passholders for the 2025-2026 season.  NonStopLocal

CRIME NEWS

  • Yakima man Nicholas Edward Encinas, 33, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault after he attacked two Latter-day Saint missionaries with a rock on August 17 and is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 9 — he has been ordered to avoid contact with the victims.  Yakima Herald-Republic

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire officials said firefighters are battling a 2,752-acre blaze near Bumping Lake as high temperatures and dry conditions hamper suppression efforts — trail and campground closures now include the Pacific Crest Trail from White Pass to Chinook Pass to protect hikers.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Yakima City Council approved a plan to rebuild the busy intersection at Fair Avenue and East Nob Hill Boulevard and a $22,500 grant to support police staffing for the upcoming Central Washington State Fair—work on the intersection will begin after the fair this year. The council also approved a commuter funding agreement with WSDOT to keep the Yakima-Ellensburg bus service running through June 30.  KIMA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Representatives from the University of Washington and Gonzaga University visited Yakima last week to meet with Rotary Club members and local health officials and discuss strengthening health partnerships—highlighting UW’s use of local clinical rotations and research on Parkinson’s disease. They focused on addressing workforce shortages and tailoring future medical education to meet community needs.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • The Wildcat Fire, which began on Aug. 25 and remained 0% contained as of Wednesday, continued to grow and raised health concerns as Yakima health officials warned that wildfire smoke can cause sore throat, headache, burning eyes, coughing, and shortness of breath—especially for children, seniors, and those with heart or lung conditions. Residents are advised to check local air quality and use N95 or N100 masks if spending extended time outdoors.  KIMA
