- ➤ The Mighty Tieton Warehouse hosted its 15th annual Day of the Dead celebration where between 1,000 and 2,000 people gathered to honor loved ones — learning about La Catrina and traditional offerings. - ➤ Local residents in Yakima have long told of Bigfoot sightings near Rimrock Lake and on the Yakama Reservation, and two county residents once filmed a large creature in a forest 50 years ago. - ➤ Starting in January 2026, grocery stores will charge 12 cents for reusable plastic bags while paper bags remain at 8 cents and customers using food assistance programs will not pay the fee. - ➤ The Yakima City Council seeks volunteers for local boards, committees, and commissions, with vacancies on the Arts Commission, Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, and Tree City USA Board—some positions require supplemental applications. - ➤ Today the Yakima Valley Libraries board meets to plan new service agreements after it ended contracts with Mabton, Naches, Tieton and Granger because rising costs made old fees unsustainable—Mabton has a one-year deal for 2026, Naches is still negotiating its funding gap, Tieton will close its library by year’s end, and Granger is reviewing a proposed contract. - ➤ A survey by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found that nearly half of U.S. adults drove while so tired their ability to drive was impaired—41% admitted drowsy driving, with men reporting higher rates than women.
