COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Yakima Valley Santa Trolley will offer festive 25 minute rides along the Pine Street Line on December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21 with stops for hot cocoa, Christmas carols, and a chance to meet Santa. A new Candlelight Trolley ride will add an evening option with candlelight and spiced wine available for purchase—advance tickets are recommended given past sellouts.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
  • On Nov. 22, Stone Church distributed roughly 875 Thanksgiving meal boxes—each with food items and a frozen turkey—at its Yakima, Selah, and Zillah campuses, along with 150 grocery vouchers.   • The Naches Valley Library secured a new contract that confirms its continued operation with the same hours—approval came from the Yakima Valley Library Trustees and Town Council after concerns about its future last month.  NonStopLocal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bayt Jenin Coffeehouse and Community Space opened on November 15 in Yakima and offers a menu featuring cardamom-spiced coffee, a Knafeh latte and Damascus lemonade that reflect Palestinian flavors—owner Rawan Shahin said she started the shop to host cultural events and display a local mural.   • Alton Brown debuted his new YouTube series, Alton Brown Cooks Food, on November 22nd with an episode on cooking a Thanksgiving turkey that shows his updated brine soak and fan drying technique — he plans to release new episodes weekly. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Average Yakima gasoline prices fell 2.4 cents per gallon from November 17 to November 24, averaging $3.87 per gallon according to GasB—this small drop may ease costs for drivers.  KIMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Since 2020, Yakima School District enrollment fell from over 16,000 to about 15,550 as more parents choose homeschooling & see it as a safer, kinder option than public schools. The district will expand career education & strengthen multilingual programs to help stabilize numbers and avoid budget cuts.  KIMA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today stays mostly dry with a few snow showers along the Cascade crest as temperatures fall below freezing tonight—Tuesday’s warm front will bring mixed precipitation with up to a 60% chance of accumulating snow in Kittitas Valley and increased freezing rain in sheltered valleys, while Thanksgiving is expected to be chilly with occasional rain or a mix.  Apple Valley News Now

  • Washington Rep. Dan Newhouse introduced a congressional bill aimed at permanently reauthorizing the Timber Production Expansion Guaranteed Loan Program—also called the SAWMILL Act. The measure will provide timber companies with low-interest loans to boost rural jobs, reduce wildfire risks and improve forest management.  NonStopLocal
