- ➤ Lighted holiday parades and truck displays have kicked off in the Yakima Valley—Roslyn held its Christmas Parade of Lights on Nov. 28 and the 22nd annual Toppenish Christmas Lighted Parade starts today at 6 p.m., with more events planned in Naches, Selah, Sunnyside, Cle Elum, Kittitas, Yakima, Union Gap, Granger and Moxee over the next weeks. - ➤ Local businesses in Yakima and Grandview are hosting Small Business Saturday events today where shoppers can collect passport stamps from over 20 stores between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and get free tote bags, while organizers plan events through December to help small shops grow. - ➤ Sen. McConnell’s provision in a government funding bill will ban hemp-based THC drinks and snacks in November 2026, a move industry leaders say could cost 300000 jobs and hurt breweries that rely on these products—lawmakers and business groups are now pushing for new regulations to protect the hemp industry. The federal action is part of efforts to keep dangerous products away from children while maintaining industrial hemp and CBD for non-impairing uses. FOX 41

- ➤ Yakima Valley College announced three finalists for its next president following Linda Kaminski’s retirement and the candidates will visit the Yakima and Grandview campuses from Dec. 8—10 as town halls and meet-and-greets are open to employees, students and community members. - ➤ Yakima Rotary Trust announced an increase in the Mollie Davis Scholarship for the 2025—26 academic cycle to help local students handle rising tuition costs. - ➤ City officials repaired a broken 12-inch cast-iron water main (estimated at 80 years old) on East Yakima Avenue after it caused flooding late Thursday night. Crews began work at 10 p.m. Thursday, reopened the street Friday afternoon, and plan permanent repairs on Monday. Yakima Herald-Republic
- ➤ The IRS is urging taxpayers to gather bank, wage, and digital asset records and check its website for tips to prepare for the 2026 tax season—new changes in the One, Big, Beautiful Bill include no tax on tips and overtime and offer extra deductions for seniors. Taxpayers should also set up direct deposit and secure an online account to file returns accurately and avoid delays. FOX 41

- ➤ The Yakima County Board of Commissioners voiced unanimous support for a plan by Triumph Treatment Services to build a 16-bed medical detox facility that will help residents avoid long trips for care. County and Triumph officials will work together in coming weeks—assessing the use of a vacant former jail building and outlining steps that could take 18 to 24 months to complete.
