COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Triumph Treatment Services reopened its renovated family emergency shelter at 215 W. Yakima Ave. yesterday — the facility now features 12 substance-free units with new lighting, appliances, cabinets, flooring, and a roof. Funding came from a $938,000 state grant and Yakima County support — residents can stay from 28 to 90 days.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • A guide listing December craft fairs and holiday bazaars across the Yakima Valley has been published for local shoppers, detailing vendor events from December 1st through December 28th in Yakima, Zillah, Selah and other towns—each event includes dates, times, and venue details. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Umtanum Suspension Bridge in Yakima Canyon was honored today in the new life category of the Footbridge Awards in Switzerland. The historic bridge—built in the 1920s and renovated with an $800,000 project by the Bureau of Land Management—now provides a crucial pedestrian link to canyon trails and public lands.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • The TSA announced that starting February 1, 2026, all airline travelers without a REAL ID, passport, or equivalent ID will face a $45 fee for up to 10 days of travel—this fee covers administrative and technology costs for verifying identities. Currently, 94% of passengers already have a compliant ID, and the new process will affect all others at U.S. airports.  FOX 41

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study published yesterday found that tai chi helped middle aged adults ease chronic insomnia as much as talk therapy in a trial with 200 patients. Many patients kept practicing tai chi after the three‑month program — and their sleep improved further over the next year — showing a low‑cost way to manage sleep problems.  FOX 41
  • Scientists found that dogs given CBD supplements over time showed lower aggression. The study analyzed data from more than 47,000 pet owners and found that older dogs and those with health issues were more likely to receive the supplements — a finding that may affect how pet behavior is managed.  FOX 41
  • Triumph Treatment Services in Yakima got a $6 million award over five years to boost its new medical detox program that will help manage opioid challenges. The center will be ready in 18 to 24 months at a planned site such as the county correctional center—expected to help about 900 people in its first year.  FOX 41
  • A study using MRI scans of pro fighters found that repeated head hits make the brain’s waste disposal system work harder at first and then slow down—this change could lead to long-term brain damage. Researchers tracked 280 fighters and believe early testing of the system may help guide decisions for rest or treatment.  FOX 41

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • FOX41 Yakima has published nine Christmas recipes that offer festive meal ideas ranging from savory casseroles to warm drinks. The list includes dishes like green bean casserole and mulled wine (each recipe brings a unique flavor to the holiday season).  FOX 41
