ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Heavy rains driven by an atmospheric river have prompted flood watches for Kittitas, Yakima, and Klickitat Counties through Friday morning while rivers continue to rise. - ➤ Level 2 evacuations are taking place along the Naches River as flood warnings for the Yakima River prompt safety concerns for valley families. Local officials are monitoring the situation closely—more details will air on the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts. KIMA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Yakima Free Clinic at 208 N. Third Ave opened in May to provide free care to underserved residents and has seen over 800 patient visits; it will add a fourth day in January. Volunteers, donations and community partners support the clinic (patients also offer help). Yakima Herald-Republic
- ➤ Health officials announced Tuesday, Dec. 9 that selected bottles of Ziac have been recalled after tests found traces of ezetimibe (a cholesterol-lowering drug), and patients are urged to check their lot numbers and contact their healthcare provider. FOX 41
- ➤ A study found more parents nationwide are refusing vitamin K shots for newborns; the rate rose from under 3% in 2017 to over 5% in 2024, leaving babies 80 times more at risk for dangerous bleeding. FOX 41
