  • The Salvation Army, a Yakima staple for over 130 years, announced plans to convert 509 N. Fourth St. into a community center and food pantry. The group is known for its red kettles and holiday outreach that have helped many locals through the decades.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington shoppers will see plastic bag prices rise to 12 cents from 8 cents starting Jan. 1, 2026, as state regulators aim to reduce plastic waste and help retailers cover bag costs (paper bags will remain at 8 cents).  NonStopLocal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Dave Atteberry, a local physician from Sunnyside, was named as the new part-time health officer for the Yakima Health District—replacing Dr. Neil Barg who retired in late May—and he aims to improve public health communication and address challenges like Medicaid cuts and the potential spread of avian flu.  Yakima Herald-Republic
