  • Dylan Schlosser, a Sunnyside teen, won reserve champion at the Arizona National Livestock Show last month & his gilt sold for $31,000. He will invest his earnings in his team and pursue a trade career in construction after ending his showing career next year.  Yakima Herald-Republic

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco will start direct flights to Portland on June 10, offering more options for travelers from the Yakima Valley. Yakima Air Terminal is advancing upgrades to its decades-old facility, with a temporary baggage claim solution ready soon.  Yakima Herald-Republic

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy’s survey shows that average gasoline prices in Yakima rose 0.6 cents per gallon since January 5, reaching $3.40 as of January 12; the current rate is still 36.3 cents lower than a month ago and 12.7 cents below last year’s rate.  KIMA
  • Gas prices in Washington dropped by 4.4 cents in the past week, bringing the state's average to $3.69 per gallon+ a month ago prices were 32.3 cents higher and last year they were 12.5 cents above the current rate, which could affect local travel costs.  NonStopLocal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yakima Valley College named Dr. Teresa Rich as its 17th president today. She served as interim president since August 2024 and promised to focus on student success while strengthening community partnerships.  NonStopLocal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Prosser Digestive Health Center now offers expanded diagnostic tests (esophageal manometry, esophageal pH testing, anorectal manometry) to diagnose gastrointestinal issues and cut the need for trips to Seattle. LIFESTYLE NEWS
