  • An annual advocacy event will take place on Jan. 24 at Englewood Christian Church (511 N. 44th Ave.) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering free advocacy training, a catered lunch and live music along with networking opportunities provided by local groups. CULTURE NEWS

  • Washington Fallout fans can apply for FALLOUT SHELTER, a new reality show featuring Yakima’s own Kyle Maclachlan as Hank, with casting open until Feb. 15. Applicants must be 21 or older, hold a valid passport, and be willing to travel for the competition.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
  • The Yakima Youth Symphony Orchestra hosted its Concerto Competition at Eisenhower High School where intermediate and senior students performed for a chance to join the symphony — conductor Brian Petilo said the contest gives young musicians valuable feedback for the statewide Solo Ensemble.  KIMA

  • Yakima Valley schools are upgrading emergency systems under Alyssa's Law to shorten response times during school emergencies. Wapato High School and others have installed cameras + panic buttons and will use grant funds to add more safety features.  Yakima Herald-Republic

HEALTH NEWS

  • Technical & technologist employees picketed outside MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital on Saturday in cold weather as they struck over issues like union security, retirement and health coverage while the hospital remained fully operational. A federal mediator is set to join negotiations next week.  Yakima Herald-Republic
