CULTURE NEWS

  • Yakima Valley College will host its second Culture Fair on Feb. 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Yakima as part of its Diversity Series, following a Grandview campus event today with free activities such as a silent disco, presentations, and food. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Naches Valley High School in Yakima was honored with the 2025 ESEA Distinguished School award for its strong growth in math and English language arts. The school received an award plaque, banner and $5,000 — a recognition of dedicated efforts by staff and students.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Small Business Administration announced that beginning March 1, Yakima small businesses will need to be 100% U.S. citizen owned to qualify for SBA loans. The change will bar green card holders as part of ongoing policy tightening.  FOX 41

  • Fox 11 Tri Cities reported a set of 11 Super Bowl snack recipes, such as Savory Bacon Wrapped Smokies and Mozzarella Sticks, vanish before halftime, giving local fans quick ideas for game-day treats.  FOX 41
  • Local couples plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day at home on Feb. 14 by cooking meals together, using grocery delivery plus meal kits to enjoy flexible dining that avoids the crowded restaurant scene.  FOX 41

  • On Monday night, Prosser High School junior Herbie Wright broke Yakima Valley girls' scoring record by scoring 57 points in a game that ended 98 + 55 over Toppenish. His record-setting performance excited fans and set new marks in local basketball.  Apple Valley News Now
