Good morning, Yakima.

In 1913, Booker T. Washington addressed roughly 800 people at the then North Yakima High School auditorium, highlighting education and progress for Black Americans (he was later honored by the local community) before continuing his fundraising tour.
📰 Economy
A new analysis reveals that while most U.S. workers lost buying power between 2020 and 2024, workers in Washington gained 2.3% in real income — with Idaho leading at a 3.1% increase and New Jersey losing up to 7% — making them among only nine states with gains.
Local Yakima Valley fruit growers are monitoring their crops as spring nears; Paul Vandenberg at Paradisos del Sol Winery in Zillah said vineyards handle low temperatures better while apricot and peach growers use wind machines if temperatures drop to 25 degrees.
Growers are also pruning trees and vines to maintain plant health.
A report shows Washington workers gained a 2.3% increase in purchasing power from 2020 to 2024 (one of only nine states with real gains) while Idaho led with a 3.1% rise.
Rising costs for essentials have tempered the benefit of these higher wages.
