CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Locomotive NP 1364 moved under its own power at the Toppenish depot last month after over 30 years of volunteer restoration — its first powered run since 1952. The engine will appear at upcoming museum events. Yakima Herald-Republic
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Moxee Elementary will host an emergency training drill on March 24 from 4-6 p.m. Local agencies & first responders will work with school staff to boost emergency communication and coordination. Yakima Herald-Republic
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Department of Natural Resources firefighters will conduct a mock firefighting exercise at Mud Lake near Naches on Wednesday afternoon, March 25 — the training involves helicopters, a Kodiak 100 airplane, and ground crews, and smoke may be seen depending on wind conditions with a backup date on March 26. - ➤ The state has allocated over $2 million to design an upgraded agricultural lab in Prosser slated to house the WSDA Fruit Tree Certification Program and Nematology lab. Representative Jeremie Dufault said the project, one of ten district winners, aims to replace a 1930s facility leasing space from WSU. KIMA
