- ➤ Yakima will soon welcome a new Popeyes restaurant at 2018 S. First St. — it is planned to have a drive-thru at the renovated Russell Lane and First Street intersection. Forever 21 closed its Valley Mall location on March 28 — Korean barbecue restaurant Joy Garden will leave 5605 Tieton Drive on May 31 and reopen at 3710 Fruitvale Blvd. on June 9. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials are increasing monitoring of Mt. Adams after earthquakes were recorded from September 2024 to January and are updating evacuation plans as experts warn that an eruption could trigger landslides and lahars. They say dangerous flows of ash and mud may impact areas like Trout Lake and parts of the Yakima Reservation—threats that could endanger homes and businesses. 1280 NewsTalk KIT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Yakima Health District confirmed an increase in tuberculosis cases in the Lower Yakima Valley from 10 in 2024 to 16 now; seven cases are managed by the District and nine by Indian Health Services. Officials said people with weakened immune systems such as those on chemotherapy, with HIV, or children under 5 are at high risk and urged anyone who had been in close contact with active TB cases to get evaluated by their primary care provider.
