COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Farmworkers marched in Sunnyside on March 29 and held a protest at a Tacoma grocery on Monday to urge stores to stop selling mushrooms from Windmill Farms— a Canadian-owned firm. The United Farm Workers boycotts the mushrooms until workers secure a union contract and better treatment.  Yakima Herald-Republic

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A two-car collision on Yakima Valley Highway and Buena Road killed one man and injured two others Friday evening when a Nissan crossed the double yellow line and hit an eastbound Ford Ranger at around 5:30 p.m.—deputies closed the road while investigating the incident.  KIMA

CRIME NEWS

  • Wapato police said an 18 year old man threatened a couple with a shotgun outfitted with a green laser and gang related remarks outside their home on Wednesday night—officers found him after he left a white SUV and charged him with two counts of first degree assault with bail set at $10,000.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Yakima will begin work at the intersection of Division St and 3rd Ave on Monday, April 7th to install new traffic signals + ADA ramps, curbing, gutters and sidewalks. Workers will operate weekdays from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm while drivers are urged to slow down near work zones + follow posted limits until the project is completed by late June or early July.  KIMA
  • Yakima Airport Director Rob Hodgman addressed concerns over noise from military training flights that fly at about 5,000 feet west of Yakima — in open civil aviation airspace. He explained that the legal flights are tracked by air traffic control and advised residents to file complaints through the FAA if the noise disrupts them.  KIMA
