ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Washington State Patrol reported that an SUV left the roadway on State Route 12 near Naches Saturday night, April 19—rolling and striking a power pole which ejected a 63-year-old Yakima driver who was not wearing a seatbelt, and she was taken to MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital for treatment.  NonStopLocal

CRIME NEWS

  • Yakima Police are searching for a missing endangered 17-year-old (Jet) who is non-verbal and was last seen in the 5100 block of Tieton Drive (at 12:30 p.m.) wearing a light blue shirt and dark gray/black sweatpants so anyone with information is urged to call 911.  NonStopLocal
  • Selah police investigated a missing child case by checking on a home in the 500 block of Speyers Road at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and, after following leads, a state crime scene response team joined local investigators to locate the remains of a boy on Cowiche Mill Road Friday; police also held 33-year-old Preston Keith Funderburgh on charges of unlawful disposal of human remains, obstructing a law enforcement officer, and making false statements while saying there is no danger to the public.  Yakima Herald-Republic

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Inspire Development Centers will resume early childhood education services on Monday after a funding delay affected over 400 children and 70 staff at seven centers—federal funds have been confirmed to restart operations for the remainder of the program cycle.  KIMA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cleanup crews are working at the former Johnny’s Texaco site on the corner of East Edison Avenue and South 7th Street in Sunnyside—this work is part of a state-led project to lower gasoline levels in the groundwater. The Washington State Department of Ecology reported that two wells dropped from over 50,000 micrograms per liter to below 800 micrograms per liter last spring.  KIMA
