COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents living from Nob Hill Boulevard to Tieton Drive between 16th Avenue and Landon Avenue can join a free community cleanup on May 3rd from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Items must be set out by 8:00 a.m.—trucks will help collect trash and yard clippings while hazardous and large construction waste will not be accepted.  KIMA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Yakima School District is hosting an informational evening for residents who want to serve on the school board on Tuesday, April 29 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at the Professional Library, Central Services Building. Superintendent Dr. Trevor Greene will lead the session—attendees will learn how to apply and what board service involves.  KIMA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On April 26th, families gathered at Sarg Hubbard Park for the Yakima Earth Day celebration to learn about protecting nature through hands-on activities and educational displays. Officials including Trevor Hutton from Fish and Wildlife and community leader Karina Solorio led efforts to promote environmental care and reduce waste — a message aimed at strengthening community stewardship.  FOX 41

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representative Tom Dent received his fourth signature on his bill that requires utility companies to create approved wildfire mitigation plans — the law is set to help protect the Washington landscape and improve electric infrastructure safety as stated by Governor Bob Ferguson. The new rule will require utility plans to be shared with the department of natural resources and other wildfire prevention groups.  KIMA
