CRIME NEWS

  • Yakima Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning at an apartment complex on the 1100 block of North 4th Street, where a 37-year-old man was shot and died at the scene—investigators urge anyone with information to come forward.  Apple Valley News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers from Columbia University discovered the structure of the sweet receptor on the tongue that signals sweetness, with the study published on May 7 in the journal Cell. Food makers may use this new knowledge to lower sugar in products while keeping them tasty — a finding that could lead to healthier options — as further tests are planned.  FOX 41
  • Federal officials reported that at least 10 people, including six hospitalized, became ill with listeria after eating ready-to-eat products from Fresh+Ready Foods of San Fernando in California and Nevada, leading the producer to voluntarily recall items with use by dates from April 22 to May 19 as investigations looked into sales across Arizona, California, Nevada and Washington.  FOX 41
