CULTURE NEWS

  • The Thorp Mill Historical Preservation Society restored a rare grist mill built in 1883 and turned it into a museum offering guided and self-guided tours. Tours run Friday through Sunday from June through August.  Yakima Herald-Republic

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews began restarting the Main Roza Canal in Yakima after a week-long conservation closure to preserve water ahead of warmer weather. Officials say the phased reopening will finish by Jun. 3 to help supply growers and residents as water levels currently sit at 52%.  KIMA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yakima County officials announced a burn ban for most residential outdoor burning in unincorporated areas starting today until Aug. 31 — agricultural field and orchard burns remain allowed with a permit.  NonStopLocal
