CRIME NEWS

  • A Toppenish man, Jose Bautista-Andrade, pleaded guilty to possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute and was sentenced to 11 years in prison on June 18 as part of a plea that dropped other drug and firearm charges—he also forfeited four pistols.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • David Lenard Ervin, a 31-year-old tow truck driver from Toppenish, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide-disregard for the safety of others after crashing his motorcycle into pedestrian Timmy S. DeWitt in October 2021—he is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept 24 with a recommended two-year term that includes prison time and electronic home monitoring.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • Yakima County prosecutors charged 38-year-old Lorenzo Medina-Mejia with first- and second-degree murder after he shot neighbor Rogelio Rodriguez in the backyard of a property on the 1200 block of Pleasant Avenue on June 14 — Medina-Mejia lived in a separate structure and police found a matching .22-caliber handgun on him — and he is held at the Yakima County jail with bail set at $500,000.  Yakima Herald-Republic

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yakima started a project to improve water and wastewater systems in its underserved northeast and south central neighborhoods, with northeast construction along North 3rd and 4th that began on June 23 and south central work scheduled to start on October 7—The $2.2 million project, contracted to Ascent Foundation and More, LLC of Cle Elum, will finish by February 2026 and may lead to temporary water outages with 24-hour notice.  NonStopLocal
