EDUCATION NEWS

  • Educational Service District 105 secured nearly $3 million from the Ballmer Group to boost mental health support in Yakima schools, focusing on early detection for anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts—new screening tools will guide interventions and provide timely counseling—assistant director Brandon Riddle said.  FOX 41

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • About 30 people gathered Thursday in Yakima to urge U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse to support a legislation that would allow immigrants a pathway to citizenship. Protesters signed a letter at Lions Park and marched one mile to his downtown office—citing immigrants' role in the local agricultural industry.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • Contractors with the City of Yakima will begin the next phase of roundabout construction at 72nd Avenue and Washington Avenue on June 30, resulting in closure of lanes on the west side while drivers are urged to use alternate routes. The $1.47 million project is funded by the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board and state legislature funds—phase 1 began on June 16— and is expected to be completed in November.  Apple Valley News Now
  • Yakima Municipal Court warns that fraudulent text messages claiming a failure to pay may lead to license suspension and fees are a scam; Eva Heitzman (Court Services Manager) said recipients should ignore these texts and avoid giving out personal or financial information.  Yakima Herald-Republic

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers found that many children who visit the ER for allergic reactions spent extra hours in the hospital even though 95% can safely go home within two hours after an epinephrine shot. The study reviewed over 5,600 visits at hospitals in the U.S. and Canada—information that could help ease hospital crowding and reduce delays for families.  FOX 41

  • Yakima will host the Dye Hard 5K color run today featuring a 5K course with black lights, fluorescent powder, and bubbles. Runners and walkers of all ages will check in between 7 and 7:30 p.m.—walkers start at 9:30 p.m. and registration closes Friday at 11:59 p.m.  KIMA
