CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday afternoon, Yakima Police responded to a domestic abuse call at 1:15 p.m. at an apartment where a convicted felon was reported damaging property with his girlfriend, pursued him after he fled on foot while discarding a handgun, and recovered fentanyl tablets and powder—he now faces charges of domestic violence, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.  NonStopLocal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city begins Phase 2 of its roundabout construction at the intersection of 72nd and Washington Avenues Monday, June 30th — the work will close the west side at South 72nd Avenue and West Washington Avenue — and drivers should expect delays as the $1.47 million project is set to finish in November.  KIMA

HEALTH NEWS

  • At a Wednesday meeting, Yakima Health District board members heard a presentation from Shawn Magee — environmental health director — and Dr. Dave Atteberry on community water fluoridation in the county. They learned that eight of the 18 major water systems add fluoride to protect teeth, and the board will keep monitoring the issue.  Yakima Herald-Republic
